Ritulazzz is a web-based, participatory project inspired by the social structures, abilities, and behaviours of insects by the artist collective Fathom Sounds. Ritulazzz invites audiences of all ages to reflect on our culture of extraction through the lens of insect life. Guided by an insect, participants enter another realm, receiving instructions that may heighten their awareness of sensory connections and perceptual shifts. Insects don’t just survive—they thrive in ways that might teach us about resilience, adaptation, and sustainability. As we navigate a time of collective change, Ritulazzz asks us to consider how to take cues from these tiny beings and reconsider our relationship with the world around us. Created by Fathom Sounds (Alana Bartol, Kat Morris, Genevieve Robertson, Nancy Tam, and Jay White) in collaboration with Joni Schinkel, Ritulazzz connects participants to insects' overlooked wisdom and invites them to think beyond human perspectives. Thank you to the Canada Council for the Arts for the support of this work.
