participatory artwork

The westslope cutthroat trout are one of the many species at risk threatened by open-pit coal mining. Deformities found in and population decline of the westslope cutthroat trout in rivers and creeks near Teck Resources’ Elk Valley, BC coal mining operations serve as a warning of the devastating impacts of open-pit coal mining.

Participants are invited to take a piece of charcoal and rub it onto what appears to be a blank piece of paper, revealing the image of a westslope cutthroat trout. The work on paper can be taken as they leave the exhibition.
