We find weeds in so-called waste spaces downtown. The City of Calgary's bi-laws prevent the public from harvesting of weeds from public space. What is a weed? Where do they grow? How do they survive and thrive in harsh urban environments?
On this walk we will learn the names of many common weeds, many of which are edible and have medicinal properties. Together, we will explore their smells and tastes. This is an evening walk. Please bring a flashlight as we will be out after dark. We will also be visiting railroad tracks and other areas behind commercial developments, which will be considered trespassing. Please dress appropriately for the weather. The walk will be led by Latifa Pelletier-Ahmed of Edible and Medicinal Plants of Calgary.
